This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of CORT Furniture Outlet. All opinions are 100% mine.
I can honestly say when buying our home almost eight years ago, I had no idea of the style of decor I would be drawn to. I can remember countless times that I scoured design magazines and watched hours upon hours of design shows just looking for something that made me feel inspired.
Had I known about CORT Furniture Outlet at the time, I would have definitely popped by my local showroom to browse and draw inspiration. CORT Furniture Outlet sells both new and previously leased furniture that has been used in model homes, on movie sets, by home stagers, in corporate apartments and offices, and individuals needing furniture temporarily, for a fraction of its original retail price.
I wanted to share with you 5 ways that I have breathed life into my house to make it feel like a home that I have grown to love. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite pieces that may be available at your local CORT Furniture Outlet for a fraction of the cost of purchasing retail that can give your house a cozy vibe!
5 Ways To Make Your House Feel Like A Home
- Artwork
- Mixing Furniture Pieces
- Rugs
- Mirros
- Lamps and accessories
1) Artwork:
I am a huge fan of adding artwork around my home because it gives it such a warm and cozy vibe. Plus, it doesn’t have to be expensive and can instantly change a room and pull it all together. I like to sometimes make my art piece the inspiration behind the room design and pull colors and accents from there. Artwork can be DIY’d or displayed in non traditional ways, such as a DIY art ledge as well. No matter how you choose to add art to your space, it is sure to add a big punch, without a huge cost.
2) Mixing Furniture Pieces
Mixing furniture pieces is the key to adding visual interest to any space. From wood pieces, to upholstered pieces, mixing metals; all of this adds to the visual elements and instantly heightens the value perception of your home’s decor, even though you may have added these elements on a serious budget.
3)Rugs
Rugs are one my most favorite decor pieces to add to complete a space and make your house feel more like home. Just like art, rugs have a way of pulling everything together and making the overall space feel grounded and complete, while adding depth and warmth. I like to make my rug selections at the very beginning of my design plan or at the very end. Its really a matter of preference. If I select it at the beginning, it serves as a sort of mood board or inspirational direction for the space. If I elect for the end, then it serves as a stamp on the space as completed.
4) Mirrors
Mirrors make spaces feel bigger and brighter, without the cost of added square footage. I believe every room needs a mirror, just be conscious and mix up the sizes in each room to make it feel a bit more thoughtful and curated.
5)Lamps and Accessories
Lamps and other accessories give the room personality. Once a room is pulled together with furnishings, the accessories such as throw pillows, lamps, faux plants, and other decorative add-ons are what finishes everything off. For example, plants add life and energy, while lamps or other lighting set a mood.
When decorating a space, rushing to finish it may feel like the way to go. But the truth is, making a room or a house feel like home, can take time. So when it comes to adding those special little touches, do not be afraid to decorate slowly. Take care and time to gather unique and interesting objects, and experiment by moving them around the house to see where they feel best.
