If you follow me over on the ‘gram, then you know that I spent the other weekend with a group of girlfriends taking in all that New Orleans had to offer during the 2018 Essence Music Festival.
What is the Essence Music Festival you may be wondering? The Essence Festival, known as “the party with a purpose”, is an annual music festival which started in 1995 as a one-time event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Essence, a magazine aimed primarily towards African-American women. It is the largest event celebrating African-American culture and music in the United States.
I took on the city with eight girlfriends and we had a blast. We ate good, had some amazing drinks (of course, it’s NEW ORLEANS), and took in the entire vibe of the city.
We stayed in the cutest Air B &B in the uptown district.
We visited the convention center where there are lots of seminars, vendors selling all types of things like art, clothing, fabric, you name it!
My sister, who you all hear me mention all the time, even had a booth at the festival. Of couse I had to pick up another print for my son! As you know, I love adding these one of a kind prints to his gallery wall in his room. You can see her trying to act like she doesn’t love me in this photo, but we
I even got a taste of the nightlife at the House of Blues.
We dined at several local places that served up some of the best local cuisine. New Orleans is known for having some of the best food ever, but I was so busy peparing to eat that I didn’t snap any photos… I’m sorry yall!!!
But overall I have to say that this was a fantastic summer trip with friends. Next year is the 25th anniversary of the festival so I bet it will be even bigger and better! The comradery and overall vibe has me missing New Orleans already so I am hoping to be able to attend next year.
My girl Lauren with Chic Urban Mom broke down her Essence Festival experience, along with her restaurant suggestions so make sure you head over to check it out!
Have any of your ever been to Essence?
Thanks so much for stopping by. Until next time!
Sounds like a great time Erin! I’ve been dying to go to the Essence Festival! Maybe next year!
Thank you Carli! And yes, hopefully you can take a trip soon!
