As Thanksgiving approaches, I am itching to get my home ready for the holidays. In my normal decorating fashion, I started with my favorite focal area in my home–the fireplace mantle.
The holidays hold a special place in my heart, as I love how it brings family and friends together. I have fond memories of my family getting together at my Mom’s house and the cozy aroma that filled the air. Now that I have a family of my own, I look forward to creating our own traditions.
This year, I designed my mantle to incorporate inviting, transitional, and non-traditional holiday décor. Transitional was important because just like any other family, my family is super busy and budget conscience, so décor that translates from Thanksgiving to Christmas is a must! I also opted for the non-traditional aspect by using simple and neutral colors, and bringing holiday scents into my home that make my family and friends feel welcomed, festive and nostalgic.
After heading to the store to grab some items to get started on my mantle, I checked out the new Glade® Limited Edition Winter collection and was super inspired by its messaging. The entire line wraps you in the spirit of the holidays and being with family and friends. I knew that the simplicity and warmth of SEND A LITTLE LOVE™ which smells like a Vanilla Biscotti™ was the perfect accent to add not only to my mantle by infusing the light and sweet aroma throughout my entire home.
I added the Glade® SEND A LITTLE LOVE™ Jar Candle to my simple mantle and it complimented it perfectly.
Now my mantle is holiday ready–for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, and includes this DIY reversible holiday banner that I created which will carry me through both seasons.
It was super easy so I have a quick tutorial for you guys so that you can create your own in no time!
Supplies you will need:
- glue gun (from craft store)
- words printed out in black on printer paper
- burlap banner (from any craft store)
First I printed out the words THANKFUL and JOYOUS in size 300 using the font Calibri on my computer. I am pretty sure that any font of your choice will work. You will have to play with the size.
Next, I cut out the letters and placed them as I would like to have the look on the banner. Once I had my layout, I glued the letters on using my hot glue gun.
I repeated this on the other side of the banner.
Stick each side to the top of the mantle using clear tape, and that’s all to it!
I also added a Glade® Wax Melts Warmer and the SEND A LITTLE LOVE™ Wax Melts to my living room side table since it’s the first room that you encounter when you enter my home. The scent of this room sets the mood for the remainder of the holiday season.
At my front door, I keep the Glade® SEND A LITTLE LOVE™ Premium Room Spray to give a spritz before someone visits:) I just love how this collection blends seamlessly with my décor!
You can find the Glade® SEND A LITTLE LOVE™ and other Limited Edition Winter Collection fragrances at any Kroger or one of its banner stores. Visit the Glade® for Holiday Social Hub for more info!

Your mantle looks great! and I agree…. their products fits seamlessly into your existing decor!
I saw the Glade Holiday Scent lineup on the endcap of my local market, and they really did smell great. My daughter and I take the time to give them all a whiff.
Your banner is so cute, Erin! Such a clever idea to make it reversible.
