Live Pretty on a Penny: 2013

The Gray Blues...

Thursday, December 12, 2013

For my nursery, I wanted the perfect (in my eyes at least) shade of gray. As many of you may know, gray can be a tricky color. For example, in looking around Home Depot, I found that several grays either picked up too much blue, too much purple, or looked too taupy. I wanted something that we super clean.

In doing research (Pinterest), I somehow came across what I felt to be perfect! It's called Mindful Gray by Sherwin Williams.

Its one of those colors that to me creates a nice clean canvas to decorate around, which is what I really wanted.

I am very happy with the decision. We painted last Sunday and the color dried to be exactly what I thought. We purchased the paint from Home Depot, and had it color-matched to Behr Paint & Primer. What I like about the Behr Paint & Primer in one is the fact that it is low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). You can read more about what that means to you and your body here, especially if you are expecting. I'm no doctor of course, but I still want to expose myself and my baby to as few chemicals as possible:)

Right now I am working on making over the dresser for the room. Once that is in place, I will be sure to share it, along with the wall paint, thus far.

Can't wait!

Until next time...

Crib Searchin'

Thursday, November 21, 2013

Preparing for my journey into motherhood for the first time has taught me alot about myself. It has mainly taught me that I am actually much more of a minimilist than I imagined. Take my expercience with selecting a crib for example. Deciding on the style of crib had to be one of the hardest decisions in my life. Mainly because I felt that alot of cribs tended to be just a little bit more traditional than the look that I was going for. So everytime I went into either Target or Babies R Us to look, I would shut down and vow to start again another day.

Then my sister called me. She asked me had I made a crib selection as of yet because she wanted to purchase me one as a gift. Well....that put my butt into action. A few days later I received this email from Target...

Buy a crib and get a free mattress? I love a good deal! So after checking out Target's catalog of cribs, I came across the Babyletto line. What I like most about their line of cribs is that they are just modern enough, but not so contemporary that they look overly sterile.

I ended up going with the Babyletto Madison 3-in-1 in espresso and white.

Along with the purchase of this crib, I scored a mattress. I can't remember the name of the top of my head, but it got really good reviews.

So there you have it, killing two birds with one stone. Many thanks to my sis for lighting that fire which led me to this beauty.

Oh, and for fun, here is a picture of crib placed in a room that I found on Pinterest via Babyletto.

Cute right?

So I am excited to begin putting my room together:) I will be sharing the progress as it moves along. 11 more weeks until my little boy makes his appearance.

Thanks for stopping by. Until next time!

Baby Bump News

Thursday, November 7, 2013

Hello all, and happy Thursday! I hope that everyone has been enjoying the crisp Fall weather. I am just happy that its not hot anymore while I am going through my pregnancy. Speaking of my pregnancy, I am now 27. 4 weeks along. I can't believe it. Seems like time is flying straight pass me. Many people have been asking me to share some baby bump photos. I am more active on instragram, but for those who may not have seen, here are some pics from this past weekend at the Khufu Joint Ball in New Jersey.

I have gained about 14 pounds so far and according to thebump.com, my baby is the size of a Rutabega and almost 2 lbs. That cracks me up, but yeah.

Oh yeah, we are having a BOY! I'm so excited to meet my little man. Being the mommy of a boy should be interesting and I can't wait.

Let's see...what else...

No weird cravings... actually I can tell you that the thought of salmon turns my stomach and I love icees.

Hmmm, lets see...oh.. my doctor has prescribed me iron pills as of this week because my iron is low...but I did pass my gestational diabeties test! Woo hoo!

I have also purchased my crib. Pics to be shared later.

That's about it. What's going on in your world?

While searching the internet for master bedroom makeover inspiration, I came across this photo.
Gold+Navy--love this!

This color combo is perfect, especially since I seem to be super obsessed with navy blue right now. I will more than like add some pops of orange here and there since I am in love with that color as well.

I will keep you guys posted. Still have to figure out paint and all that. Right now, I am working on organizing my bedroom closet and there is "stuff" is everywhere. However, there is definitely some progress being made.

What do you all think of this combo? Do you love it as much as I do?

Until next time!

I'm Baaaaack! What's Been Going On?

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

I have been struggling for a few days on how to begin this post, what to name it, what to talk about, etc, etc. Then I realized that I will just begin with honesty. After all, that's what I am supposed to do anyway.

Let me start by saying that I have truly missed blogging. I just felt that I had nothing valid to talk about and nothing really going on. Then time just passed, then I became lazy... so I am sorry. I don't want to be one of those bloggers that say "hey yall, I'm back!" Then to never post again. That's not me. I have some pretty interesting things going on as of now, so where should I begin...

First let's see...I did not get into the grad school of my choice, which was sort of a bummer:( I was told that my test scores were too low to be considered competitive with other applicants. Boo...but whatever. I guess it just wasn't my time to enroll.

Oh yeah, then a week after I was denied grad school entry, I found out that I was pregnant! Say whaaaat? Yep! So I guess there is a plan in everything! I am now 14 weeks pregnant, super excited and thankful! Still getting used to everything going on with my body. By nature, I am pretty small, so I am not really showing a major bump, just a little pooch. I also haven't started taking the weekly belly shots, but I plan to really soon. I am feeling okay majority over the time as of now. The beginning was a little rough.

Here are the details according to the bump.com. I am a sucker for these websites and apps:)

I am also beginning to think about nursery designs and also figured that I want to get my bedroom together. It's just a big, boring, unorganized mess. So I plan to tackle that in the upcoming months.

If you follow me on Instagram where I am normally pretty active, Over a month ago, I was working on my dining room and making over some chairs. Well those are on hold as well. I just don't know if I feel like putting in all the work that goes into making over some chairs. So I may just buy some. We will see.

Oh, and lastly, I went attended the Haven Conference last weekend. I had an amazing time. I got to hang out with the two lovely ladies; Brandi over at Don't Disturb this Groove in the middle and Lisa over at Celebrate Creativity to the right. When you get a chance, check out their blogs. Their projects and photos are amazing!

I am glad that we got to experience it together, as we bonded over the various sessions. I already knew Brandi, so it was great to get to know Lisa.

Let's see, what else...oh yeah, right now we are dealing with a leaking a/c unit fun. Not sure what possesed the builder to place a unit in the attic as opposed to the basement, but we are getting chips in our ceiling drywall from this issue.  More on that later.

Well. that's it for now. I am so inspired just by writing this post and I look forward to continuing to connect with you guys in the future.

What have you all been up to?
