Live Pretty on a Penny: July 2012

A Peek Inside HGTV Green Home: Part Two

Monday, July 30, 2012

Last week I showed you a few photos from my peek inside of the 2012 HGTV Green Home. As promised here are more of my favorite photos!

Loved this outdoor space that flows outside of the family room. I can just see myself hanging their chatting with friends and enjoying cocktails:)

Known as the Georgia Room, all of the doors (walls)  in this indoor/outdoor space slide open making this space functional for entertaining, while allowing the flow of fresh air and natural light.

Loved the use of neutrals amped with the orange walls in this den area. Check out the lucite coffee table with wood logs inside.

Cute kids bedroom!

Craft and homework area.
I really enjoyed my trip to Serenbe and the HGTV Green Home 2012. For more pics and a virtual tour of the HGTV Green home, click here.

A Peek Inside HGTV Green Home: Part One

Friday, July 27, 2012

Back in May, I had the wonderful opportunity to tour the HGTV Green Home, located in the beautiful and sustainable community of Serenbe Georgia, just 30 minutes outside of Atlanta.

Okay, let me first say… Serenbe is absolutely beautiful, eco-friendly, and very peaceful! I went with a couple of friends and whenever things in life or at work begin to stress us out, we always say “it’s time for another Serenbe trip.” Needless to say, it was amazing and I was in home décor idea heaven! Admission cost was $20.00 (I know! Sheesh) and the tour time was limited to 30 minutes (hmph)! I snapped as many photos as I could of the things I loved. Here is a peek inside!

In this beautiful kitchen area, everything used was recycled/reclaimed.

The countertop in the kitchen was made using local recycled beer bottles from Sweetwater Brewery and seashells. Looked and felt fabulous!!!

This was the master bedroom. I was in LOVE with the headboard! In case you are curious as to how you could make your own, I found the tutorial here. A very inexpensive way to add chic custom appeal to your home! I'm thinking about making one myself:)

I was also in love with the family room. Loved the mix of rustic, yet modern fresh elements. I also appreciated the use of neutrals with bold pops of color. And that rug...sigh...I could lay there and look out that window all day!

Enjoying what you are seeing so far? Is there anything that you see that you would like to incorporate into your home? Stay tuned for Part Two of my visit!

A New Chapter

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Hello to all of my loyal readers and I am so happy to be back!  I know it has been a while, but know that my absence has not only been necessary, but very intentional. I had a wonderful conversation with a friend some time ago whose opinion that I hold in full regard.  We spoke about some of my goals and dreams that I had not only with my blog, but with me as a brand. She pointed out so many things that really got me to thinking, and at that moment, I realized that I had to start over. Not just scrap what I had been doing with my last blog, but get a little more creative in my thought process and deliberate in my approach, thinking about what I want to resonate with my readers. It’s easy to become so consumed with the day to day of life around us such as our finances, employers, family members, spouses, and friends, that we forget to focus on the things that make us happyJ  Not that we don’t love the aforementioned things or that they lack fulfillment or purpose, but I want to challenge all of us to step out of what we know (or think we know) as life. For me, I know that if I had not tried something new, I would not have found that one of my strongest passion lies within seeing things or people transform, hence my love for makeup and home makeovers!   I then realized that I want this blog to not only entertain, but educate, serve a purpose, empower, awaken, and motivate my readers to seek and follow what they define as passion. I want my brand to encourage people to exercise their creative voice.

I feel like I am finally in a place where what I want to blog about what will make sense, and provide well rounded  topics of discussion that appeal to the masses. While this blog will focus on the things that I love such as pocket-friendly DIY home décor, crafty design projects, and beauty… we will also discuss new recipes, traveling, health & fitness, and all the “stuff” in between. Yep, that’s what I want this blog to be…an escape away from the “norm”… something fresh and new, all on a budget of course. Hey, who says penny living can’t be an eclectic mix of creative, educational, fun and exciting? Not this girl.
